Tragedy at Palu, Indonesia
We, at AFS, have received unfortunate news about some of our friends in Palu, Indonesia, who were there for a competition.
Palu was host to a paragliding XC competition between 26th and 30th September 2018. On 28th, at approximately 6.30pm, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the region collapsing several buildings, including the hotels where the pilots and officials stayed.
One of our own pilots, Mr KC Ng, was at this event. He survived the first big earthquake shock and immediately braced for the tsunami that was expected later. He also managed to rescue a small girl and reunited her with her mother. KC Ng has returned to Singapore safely.
As of writing this article, 7 pilots were unaccounted for. 2 of the 7 have been confirmed dead. We are extremely saddened to hear of this, and our hope and prayers are with the unaccounted for victims of this disaster. We offer our deepest respects and condolences to the deceased and their families.
